What to do?
I've got my steering column taken apart down to just past the lock plate so I can take the turn signal switch off. Its a 91 so it has the airbag equipped steering wheel.
I had a deal in place that fell through to replace what's broken. It definitely needs new horn buttons and a new turn signal switch. The airbag is crappy, the sensor under it looks cracked, and the steering wheel is faded and slightly bent. I'm not a big fan of the airbag or the airbag steering wheel.
Money is an issue... but I need this car street legal before Sept 1st when I'm moving. Should I just replace factory parts? Convert to a non-airbag wheel?
Anyone got any good money conscious ideas?

I remember reading somewhere that after X amount of time, airbags become useless, they won't work even if the system is good. Something about the charges used to deploy it going bad. At any rate, I'd say just replace it with a non-airbag wheel, I think some company was selling horn buttons for the 90-92 wheels that look like the airbag but are empty.

See if you can pick up a 4th gen steering wheel - they are a direct bolt-in, are nice wheels, still have airbag, and can sometimes be gotten for cheap. The only part that needs modded is the connector for the airbag - 4th gen wheel uses a smaller connector - just use the connector off your old wheel.
