Seat mechanism question

I have a question on the seats of my freshly purchased 88 Iroc-Z. The car has the grey cloth seats. I find it strange that both seats move freely forward. Are they all like that or mine are malfunctioning?
I was driving today with the back seat down and some carton boxes on top of it. I had to brake suddenly and one of boxes pushed the passenger seat back forward. It seemed weird to me, but is everyone experiencing the same thing?

Thanks for the input.

Re: Seat mechanism question

That's what I thought. Thanks... I looked at it quickly, seems like the mechanism is riveted, sounds like a lot of time or a new pair of seats...

Re: Seat mechanism question

Maybe the return spring is broken, my seats are moving freely as well if you don't manually bring the handle back.

Re: Seat mechanism question

Mine move seats freely and the handles to recline forward are locked in a pulled up position if that makes any sense.

Same exact thing here. I don't think they are supposed to act like that. I am going to try to fix it, that's safety we are talking about here. Has anybody found a fix for it yet?

Re: Seat mechanism question

I just swapped to 4th gen seats in my 84. I have sliders that work correctly. If you would like them just pay shipping, let me know bohndog@gmail.com
