Tilt steering

Tilt steering

i am stuck i took apart my tilt steering column b/c it was loose but when i was tighning the bolts i was pushing on the middle shaft and then it fell off it has like a yellowish ball at the end of it and i cannot figure out how to put it back on. can anybody help me?

What year car? If you do a search on here you can find lots of pics of disassembled columns, and exploded diagrams. 82-89 are all pretty much the same, if you ignore VATS. 90-92 have a few more pieces for the airbag. The part you're dealing with should be the same for all the tilt columns.

It sounds like you're saying 56 pulled apart from 57, 58, and 59? If it pulled apart, it should go back together.
