Can you dye leather seats
I have a grey set of 4th gen leather seats. Is there a way to change the color of the leather?

Re: Can you dye leather seats
Yes you can. I'm in the process now. I bought 'Leatherique' cleaner and conditioner (http://leatherique.com/) and treated the seats. I just started my first seat tonight with 'Zelikovitz' dye ( http://zelikovitz.com/ ).
I have an 87 Iroc that I will be putting 97 seats into. They are currently gray and I will be making them black. So far, the one coat in a small section looks excellent and it completely covered the gray color. The black is a nice dark, rich color. Photos to follow, but to answer your question; yes! Go for it! Also, I bought both of the products on Ebay and saved about $30 bucks.

I managed to get a hold of a decent set of the trans am door panels (GTA/TTA style, I think... the nice ones, anyways...), and they are tan.
The panels I can recover and what not, but the door pulls/armrests are a different story...
Will these types of leather dyes work for the door pulls/armrests?

Re: Can you dye leather seats
I had OEM leather and wanted black. I thought of dying them but was scared of what might happen if on a 80 plus degree day. So I went with a recover. That way I don't have to replace anyone's clothes and I don't have to worry about wear marks.

Re: Can you dye leather seats
I work in auto upholstery and have used Sem vinyl dye on vinyl with success but leather is a little tricky because of the oil in it. Go very slow in its application in very light coats. It will take more time but the slower the better. The leather must be cleaned using first soap and water then acrylic lacquer thinner to strip the oils in the soap and leather off. Use the acrylic lacquer thinner very sparingly, too much will melt the grain of the leather. Also use gloves and ventilation with acetone as well as avoid smoking around it for it is extremely flammable so heat sources must be removed! But nothing will beat having them recovered so it is only recommended for color matching (SEM vinyl dye) a faded panel on a seat as apposed to a full seat. Be sure to use SEM only, it is the best.
