Questions about shifter

I've got an '86 Camaro Z28, and it has a B&M shifter in it. I can't figure out why someone would want to put that in there. It looks like it should be in a 747 or a tractor, or something. It's ugly. Were the original shifters prone to breaking? I'm just trying to figure out why it would be a good idea to replace the stock shifter.

And does anyone know what the shifter would look like out of one of those cars? I've been looking on ebay for one, and have been seeing a few different styles that say they're for my Camaro. I've been wanting to replace it since my B&M won't go past overdrive.

Re: Questions about shifter

I've never understood the appeal of the B&M Megashifter. As for it being better than the stock shifter, I don't think that it is but some people really like them.

Re: Questions about shifter

Well I'm certainly not a fan. Maybe it's because it was half-assed (you can see all the guts inside of the console). But I'd rather have all my stuff match anyways.

I have the leather steering wheel and the leather parking brake handle. Why not have a leather shifter to match?

Plus, I need all that leather to help weed out the women that I'm picking up. PETA girls drive me nuts!
