Help! Where does this bracket go?

After 2 years delay I'm finally putting together the interior of my '89 Firebird and I have a part left over. I'm not talking about a couple screws.... I'm talking about a big part. What is it and where does it go?

It is a Z shaped bracket with a partial plastic cover on one end, and a standoff on the other held in place with a bronze color screw. The bracket was originally bare metal but I painted it black.

Center dash support... Is the dash sagging in the middle? That would be why. You have to pull the dash back out, pull the center duct away, and snake that bracket down the middle to a hole above the radio pod.

I wouldn't be so lucky for you to have a picture, would I?

I think what you told me is that I have to take out the center stack (radio pod), remove the HVAC duct between the main plenum and the center stack, and place the bracket vertically with one end attached to the tranny tunnel, and the other attached to the metal dash strip that goes all the way across the car. Is that correct?

Re: Help! Where does this bracket go?

I mean the center of the dashboard... You will run a screw through the bottom of the dash into the bracket, and the bracket will snake up between the dash and the duct, coming over the duct to be screwed to the metal lip under the windshield where the dash pad screws to in the back. The longer of the 2 legs is screwed to the lip under the windshield and the shorter one with the big hole is screwed to the dash at the bottom lip. You'll see a big hole pointed towards the top of the dash somewhere between the screws for the radio pod (the large ones). This is where the bottom of the bracket goes, on the inside of the dash.

No pic... My dashboard is in the top of my garage and the car is in the driveway.

Re: Help! Where does this bracket go?

Great description, thank you. I pulled out the center stack and saw the hole on the dash. Looks like it was once riveted in place. I guess I've got some more disassembling to do again.
