How to 'glass a headliner???

We have a stock t-top headliner that has some weak spots.

The inside corner at the seatbelt slot was held up with duct tape,
but it's not broke all the way thru, cracked pretty good tho.

Is there any special way to fiberglass the inside for strength &
longevity?

We have NO idea on how to go about doing it.
I've seen therads of ppl saying they 'glassed theirs, but no instructions.

Is it as simple as bonding the matt to the liner, or is there a certain way
to prep it??

Do I have to install it to get the correct shape, or will it be evident where to shape it??

1 of the metal clip holders is held on only by a small piece of the cardboard // paper material.

Do the metal clip holders get 'glassed over the ends??

ANY advice // help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Re: How to 'glass a headliner???

i'm going to be glassing both sides of mine and recovering it later. clean off any foam, glue, etc. use fiberglass cloth (woven) because its a bit more flexible than mat (chopped and laid over itself). once the headliner's cleaned up, paint with resin. I'd let it harden, put down more resin, and lay down a layer of fiberglass cloth.

how much you glass/reinforce is up to you.

This " sounds " pretty easy, so I guess we'll do it next week-vaca-!

Dan, how much foam backing does the 1AAuto material have-- IE--
thick enough to help smooth any defects I may cause?

Re: How to 'glass a headliner???

I'm interested as well - I've been wanting to redo mine, and glass it as well - but I plan on only doing the ceiling-side as added strength. I would think that if you had a bad boo-boo on the interior side, you could sand it smooth after it sets/dries just like any other glass project.

Only thing I know about glass - 5 years ago I bought glass at Lowe's to repair my boat - turns out there are several different glass types, and the Lowe's resin would not stick to the boat glass I spent all day trying and retrying, wondering why it wouldn't stick!

the foam backing's about a 1/4" thick; it'll help a little, but no big "oopses". just have some sandpaper handy to level everything off before you cover the board.

if you would like some samples of the material (for color, texture, whatever), just PM me and we'll get something out for ya

I remembered this being here somewhere, I was searching for it, and before I could find it, it popped up on it's own!
