rear hatch cover difference
hey everyone i was wondering something... i know that there are two different types of hatch lids....one for the power hatch and one for a non powered hatch... are the lids the same size as in length and width.... im asking because i have a 88 gta and i want to put a rear hatch lid in my trunk.... i dont care if it locks or not and i dont car about the right trunk panel... i just want to know if they both are the same size.... i have a sub box down there and i wanted to use that lid to hide it and make it look like there is nothing under there.... the sub box is about level with the upper part of the trunk so the lid can rest on the sub box.....

Re: rear hatch cover difference
No - they were different. The lid for the motorized hatch was slightly shorter from car front to rear to allow room for the larger rear panel that covers the hatch motor.

Re: rear hatch cover difference
hey jeff.... thanks for that... but i have no idea which one is the manual one and vice versa.... here is a pic... i will get it re done in tan. if this is the manual one would it fit in my car with the power hatch... like i said i can careless about it locking in the rear trunk panel.. all i need is a cover to cover up my new sub box and the panel can lay on the box because its exactly the same height as where it would lock at anyway..

No, that one will not fit with the electric pull-down motor. I have a couple of them here just like that one if you want to see in person why it won't fit.

Re: rear hatch cover difference
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but good luck finding one. I looked for 3 years and I gave up.
Also, you have to have the rear piece that matches - the cars that had covers had a different rear piece that had a larger 'lip' all around that the rear cover rested on when down. You could get around this by using L-brackets or something to 'hold' the cover when it's down - that was my plan. But I never found a cover that was for the hatch motor car, and I gave up.
About a year ago I finally found one on ebay, but at $200 it was too steep for me.
I'll show you what I mean on Monday if your coming over.

Re: rear hatch cover difference
They are out there, I have 2 non-power hatch panels and one of the motorized panels and matching interior pieces for all, but it looks like you have it taken care of nicely! Kudos on the custom pieces.

Re: rear hatch cover difference
Looks good David! I cheated on mine, didn't cut out the part for the hatch motor. But I placed mine lower (it sits on the shelfs on each side), and so I didn't have to cut curves. On mine, I put the amp on the underside in the middle, and the two subs on each side - no one sees the amp and all it's nasty wires, just the two sub covers. Remember?
