How to take seats apart
Ok I bought some 4th gen seats from a junkyard and they arnt in great shape but I am going to re cover them anyways My question is how do I remove the uphostlry and how do I separate the seat pan from the back of the seat there is some rust on the seat pain and I need to fix it before I recover them I saw a bolt on the side that looks like a hex pattern in it the only tool I have that will fit in it is a large allen wrench but it wont turn it. Then the other side has the adjustment mechanism and I dont know how to remove it. Please Help if you can.

Re: How to take seats apart
there's 4 main bolts that hold the slider to the bottom of the seat. you need to remove those... if you have an electric seat, make it easier by adding w/ wire nuts an expansion for the power so you can manipulate your seats out of the car while removing these bolts. (that's what I did)
Once you have the bolts off and the sliders, undo the plastic side housing, after that it's all just pretty simple. I think the seat covers for the bottoms are just "clips".
The seat cover for the stop should come off while working it out. it's held together by some velcro underneath.
hope that helps-

Re: How to take seats apart
I did it before Christmas. I actually have a restore thread on another forum (camaroforums)
Anyway, there are hog rings holding on the old covering. A screwdriver and slip joint pliers/needle nose will remove them. There are lots of them.
There are also metal rods that are attached by hog rings on one end that run throught the middle and sides iof the covering in the seating area. Frankly, since you are replacing the covering, use a utility knife and just cut the cloth tabs (it's obvious) and you can go back later and remove the rest.
As for the metal backing, I used a wheel and removed the visible rust and then used some Rustoleum rust reformer for a protective coat. I did this with the metal still on the seats. I also did the same with the seat rails.
When reinstalling, I used tie wraps to attach the covering
