1989 firebird speedometer

I have a 1989 Firebird thats speedometer doesn't work. The manual says that it has a cable but when we took it out of the dash we realized it was electrical. We are thinking it's the speedometer itself or the sending unit but we don't know where the sending unit is located at. Does anyone know?

Welcome to TGO. The VSS is on the tail shaft of the transmission. A search will provide more info on possible problems.
