Re: the ugly 92 steering wheel swap

obviusly cant work when having not slept in 2 days. my dumb *** for got a installation kit......

the grant kit calls for the whole dont work for airbagged cars yada yada yada. im sure itll work anyway right? i mean before all the 'inspection' and 'not safe' people hop on.. older cars dont have em, they pass inspection. and i dont drive like a kid and i keep my alerts high. i wanna protect what i have several dedicated hours, blood, sweat, and tears in.

thanks again, jake

Re: the ugly 92 steering wheel swap

well, just to make sure you understand what your doing, im an "inspection" person i guess, it WONT pass inspection. any car with air bags installed at the factory has to have the airbags functioning to pass an actual inspection. The earlier cars pass because they dont have airbags from the factory. that being said, many of us live in areas where inspections are very lax on such things, so not a problem. as far as safety, i have always thought early GM and Chrysler airbags systems werent very good anyway and if you wear a seat belt, a steering wheel airbag is redundant anyway. I have no problems removing airbags from my early 90's jeep, but I pull the bulbs out of the dash too so i dont have the annoying light.
as far as the steering wheel, If you think the wheel looks good, get the install kit and go, but personally, I think most of the aftermarket wheels look like crap on f-bodies. Ive always liked the earlier Firebird wheels. I would just get one of those and it bolts right on! Good luck! And im always interested in being proved wrong, so If you go with the mahogany wheel, lets see it!!

Re: the ugly 92 steering wheel swap

The best thing I eve rdid to the Interior was get rid of the big, clunky ugly air bag steering wheel.

I used one out of an 87 Firebird instead.

Re: the ugly 92 steering wheel swap

When you say earlier Firebird wheels, are you talking 2nd gen? I have wondered if the steering wheels from the 77, 78 T/A's could be adapted to a third gen column?
