How to remove back interior panel
Hey guys, I'm trying to help my friend fix his '87 Camaro hatch. Unfortunately a few months back the hatch would not close so a character said he could fix it. All he did was engage the hatch lock, break the hatch tumbler
and disconnect the electricity to the hatch. The problem is we're trying to reconnect the electricity but are unable to remove the back panel. How can we remove it without opening the hatch and preferably not breaking the panel.
Thanks a lot, Travis

There's two phillips screws in the top of the plastic - with the hatch closed you cannot get to them - so I'm not sure you can without breaking it. I'd say secure a new rear plastic before you try - that way you'll have one. Ebay, Thirdgen Ranch, Hawks, etc.

Only way I could think of is to remove all screws holding it on, take out the piece over the spare tire and try to tilt the bottom forward enough to reach up and grab the cable that goes from the lock to the latch and pull on it to open the latch. May need pliers. Good luck

Re: How to remove back interior panel
with the hatch closed your only option is to break it
the latch for the hatch to close goes through the plastic panel at the top of it where the hatch meet the car so you would have to break it even if the top screws were out
