4th gen center console mod
so im getting a mint condition console from a 2001 camaro. problem is its a auto. i know the top plates can just be switched but my question is can the auto plate be modified to work.
i know the auto plate has the ash tray in front of the shifter and the manual has it behind the shifter. would this be a problem? i was planning on putting my window controls in the ash tray and using the lid to conceal the switches.
so can i modify the suto r should i look for a manual one and spend out the **** for it?

I would try to modify the top plate before buying an M6 plate (EXPENSIVE!) I would install the console, see if the auto plate can be made to fit, and if it wont, then go looking for a manual plate. Let us know how it goes!

move the shifter over to the 4th gen location and you should be set. With a little fabrication time I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Re: 4th gen center console mod
so i got the console today but the top plate was broken so i cant use it anyway. but the rest of it is in great shape..even the lid! no cracks or anything, just needs cleaned. got it for $45. i also got a 4th gen coolant overflow tank for $30. then i went to the junkyard and got a 4th gen washer fluid tank for $9. been busy.
now i have to find a top plate for the console and install the console.
install the collant and washer tanks.
and finish up doing body work to the bumper.
and fix the turn signals/ pass side is broken.
whew!! not too much but enough for now..lol
dont think i did too bad on prices though

be patient and just find and buy a manuel top plate, go to your local autozone and buy a universal black boot for like 10 bucks and a guy on ebay makes retainers for the boot for 27 bucks and your set. ill try to post a picture of mine..

Re: 4th gen center console mod
I like the way that boot looks. Did an ebay search and came up with over 12,000 hits for "4thgen shift boot" and 10,000 hits for "shift boot retainer". over 200,000 hits for boot retainer. Got any way to narrow the search?

Re: 4th gen center console mod
i got the washer tank installed and made a door to access the lid for the tank. also got a template made for the coolant tank, havent installed it yet. am in the process of buying a top plate for a manual off ebay now super cheap but its just a shell. no boot, ash tray or lid, and the cubbly hole thing is missing but im going to put my switches in the ash tray spot. not sure what to do with the power mirror switch. i saw a guy that just installed it on the side of the console but i want a cleaner look. may install it inside the console. any suggestions?
