fold-down armrest in rear seat?

Let me know if this has been answered before. I searched, but couldn't find anything.

Is there a way to incorporate a fold-down armrest/cupholder into the rear seat? I know the seat is tiny as it is, but it seems like there is some wasted seat-back between the seats that would lend itself well to something like that. Has anyone attempted, or seen pictures of, something like this?

I'm sure you could make it work. Just find a way to use the bracket that is in the middle already for the slip back seats. Sounds like a good idea! If anybody is willing to sit back there to use it.

there was someone on here once who used an RX8 console i think. it was long enough to go all the way to the back seat and i think he put cup holders in the area behind the front seats

Re: fold-down armrest in rear seat?

the best way to go since you might wana keep the ability to fold down the rear seat.

customize the center piece of a solid rear back seat to have a fold down arm rest and built in cup holder. then fold back up flush with the seat would look great

tons of cars like buicks and newer ford edges have them. it can definately be done but lots of custom work to make it look good

My 98 Saturn coupe had a center fixed console between the rear seats that might work. It was small and had two cup holders in it as well as a tray. It also had cutouts for the seatbelts, so it is something to look in to.

Re: fold-down armrest in rear seat?

The rear seat area isn't large enough for adults to ride comfortably as it is. Take away the space needed to move around so someone can fit, all for an arm rest? Unless you haul around a bunch of 4 foot tall people, the back seat doesn't afford the space for a person to want an arm rest back there. Most people never put anyone in the back and put them through that punishment. That's why I asked why!

An arm rest in the back of a Camaro or Firebird! Sounds like you need a Cadillac or Buick instead. These cars are designed to be performance and handling cars. The only reason there is a back seat is for insurance purposes to keep the car from being a "Sports Car". I don't understand why so many people are trying to take a car and make it something it's not. I can understand improving on the factory performance, but....

Re: fold-down armrest in rear seat?

Well, to answer the question...

The only people I plan on riding in the back seat would be my kids. Another reason would be that it would be a unique feature that not everyone has. Also, I've had people ride in the back seat. I doubt, like you said, that it was all that comfortable, but cupholders might add some comfort. Also, it would fold back up into the seat back, so it wouldn't really be taking up any room.

It's all about being original, rather than having the same interior everyone else has. Same idea as performance mods, or competing in car shows, to an extent. It's all about answering the question "What makes a car noteworthy?" Typically uniqueness.

Re: fold-down armrest in rear seat?

as an alternative to taking up the limited rear seat, what about modifying the rear ashtray(removing ) and incorporating 2x popout cupholders? There are plenty of cars with these for the rear. My nissan xtrail had these.
