Center console removal

Hey guys, ive tried searching the forums but I haven't found an answer to my problem. I'm getting ready to install new carpet in my '91 Camaro and have all the interior removed other than the center console. I have already removed the shifter plate that's connected to the ash tray...but I'm unable to remove the bigger plastic piece (what the glove box is attached to). I can't get it over the ebrake to save my life!!! Heres a pic of the piece I'm talking abt :

Please give me any tips! I don't want to break it! Thanks

Re: Center console removal

should be bolts in the bottom of the center console/glove box and i believe by the shifter and two up by the heater/ac control then it should come out amd slide rite over the e brake handle

Re: Center console removal

You need to remove your Head unit and un bolt the AC controls.

The whole center console is are 2 pices.
1 is the plastic, which has the glove box, ash tray and shifter area.
2 is the carpeted area which has some bolts that need un fastening.
And VWALA!!

When removing your carpet it will be difficult to get the piece between the 2 seats up by where the head unit and AC part is, took me a few tries (should be taped together or something)
I kinda just yanked it out. But be carefull.
It will be fun putting that area back in...

Good Luck!!

Re: Center console removal

You have to man handle the Ebrake to an almost completely straight up/down position. Also, the center console lide must be opened straight up as well (the lid spring gets caught on the console bottom if not opened.

Re: Center console removal

I will be taking out my console as well, but I have a bird. Are the steps to taking it out similar? I ask because the bird has a console, and the radio pod is separate.
