I recently bought an 86 Z28. It has RPO A01 --> Factory window tint. I went to get the car inspected, and I was told that the driver/passenger windows were too dark.

Does anyone know what the factory tint should measure?

I do not know much about tint. The inspector told me the sides (pass/driver) measured 33(?) and the rear measured 17(?). He said the rear was acceptable, but the pass/driver were a violation. I am looking to confirm that the window tint is not factory.

Any help is appreciated.

 

No factory tint should be too dark to pass inspection, as it's almost unnoticeable. I'm fairly certain someone tinted your windows.

The laws differ by state. Here in Alabama the darkest allowed on the front sides is 35%, and 20% for the rear.

 

Factory tint is in the glass, not on the glass. It's the slight greenish hue the glass has. Non tinted glass is pretty much clear.

 

Use this link to find the tint laws for your state. Here you can find how dark the tint can be and how reflective it can be. If the window has a tinted film on it, then it isn't factory.
