dashboard won't go back in properly!!

I had to replace my heater core- and no, I couldn't reach all the heater box screws without pulling the dash, AND 'NO' IT DIDN'T TAKE JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS, IT WAS A PITA!
Anyway, I had the dash pulled out about 6 inches and when I went to put it back, it seemed to resist for some reason. I can get it on at the top, but the bottom doesn't want to line up and seems to be hung up somehow in the middle behind the center console. I have it in sort of in the meantime, but it will have to come out and be reinstalled at some point, so everything is situated correctly- my center console wants to go further forward but can't at the moment and the top is distorted slightly and does not want to line up with the center vents.

Has anyone run into this problem and have an easy answer for me when I tackle this again on the weekend?? Just how far do I have to disassemble this thing?

Maybe because nobody takes them out to change a heater core

I have had many of them out and its more of a pain than its worth.
You will have to keep looking around to find whats keeping it from going back in properly.

I did mine years ago but I don't recall any problems with it going back in. And I ounce had my Trans Am dash completely out and when I put it back in it was getting stuck up on the harness on the top. I would just have a second set of eyes help you look to see what your getting caught up on.

it never takes me longer than 1 or 2 hours to do a core replacement. but ive been at this sort of thing most of my life, but anyway.your dash has to go back squarely,if you get it cocked even a little it is a pain in the *** .i find that having the console out helps a great deal too. be aware that at the bottom of the dash there are two screws that attach it to the heater ac case.also there is a bracket on top under the dash pad that has to be there correctly.go slow and dont break it.also its a good idea to add flat washers under the upper half inch nuts
