How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

How much wind noise do you guys get from your windows? I have brand spanking new seals on everything and have adjusting the windows and I still get a heck of a lot of window noise from my windows. I know its not going to be perfect from a 30 year old car. I don't mind it to much but passengers always complain.

Is this just what you get, or is there something I am missing that I should do?

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

yeah, i know alot of noise comes from a slightly too large door fender gap that could be causing it, but if its not a major issue i wouldnt treat it like one

I didn't have any trouble after I installed new weatherstripping,I Have to crack the window to close the doors because it's sealed so tight.

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

I have a little bit with my GTA. It's got all original gaskets, and the windows are a little sloppy. The IROC is nice and quiet. The window tracks are tight, and I've got sof-seal window/t-top gaskets.

It's definitely not a HUGE issue. But it is slightly annoying.

I put this weather stripping on about 6 months ago. It was really tight when I first put it on but its gradually gotten loose. I am wondering if the rails the weather strip rides on need to be replaced. Because they did get bent when up when the car was taken apart for paint..

That's not too surprising for original weather strip though.

a careful window alignment/adjustment will do the trick.sometimes ,depending on what condition your door hinges are in,you have to also tweak the door to aperature alignment.i have the original weatherstripping and when i got my car there was wind noise out the a#@ .i rebuilt the window regulator ect and now its very quiet

Thank you. I replaced all my weatherstripping except for the triangle seals. So now I'm going to try replacing the triangle seals. What other adjustments can be made.

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

I get lots of noise from the area around my mirrors/triangle seals, but by just looking at them they look okay. I'll probably go ahead and replace them anyways.

Very little wind noise on my 88, but the road noise makes up for it. Mostly original stripping except for the lower window seals.

Could barely hear the passenger before I replace the weather stipping for the T-Tops. Took a bit of work, but it was well worth it!

I've always either got the windows down, or the stereo up so loud that it drowns out the wind noise anyways haha.

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

Mine used to be deafening above 80mph. It turned out to be the centre bar, which holds the T-tops down. It had lifted slightly, allowing the tops to rise at speed. Bonded back in properly now, much better

None, with 26 yo seals and slight gaps at the tops of the windows. Fuel pump is louder, and exhaust drowns them both out completely.

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

Your post really caught my eye lol!!!! My husband and I fly P51 Mustangs and do many airshows....We also have a small used car lot of 3rd gens. On my daily driver I have to admit....theres more wind noise in that car then there is in a P51 Mustang in a straight dive!!!! I would hope new weather stripping would eliminate all noise. Even though the car is 20 something years old...the shape shouldnt have changed....therefore youd think new weather stripping....if installed right would make it sound new. If not....Im not sure Id want to spend the small fortune to have mine replaced!

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

well weatherstripping alone wont do it, the doors need to be perfectly aligned, if you have ttops there weather stripping needs to be good, make sure the car sits in the sun for a good while take the ttops out for a few minutes, then put m back in after an hour or so in the sun, i dont take mine out much, personally i just like the idea of glass as a roof and being able to see the sky and anyways........also the (idk what to call them) rubber/foam blocks at either end of the doors need to be in good shape, mine are kinda chewed up, idk where the hell to get new ones, or cheap window sweeps for that matter. all needs to be good because it'll all let in wind/water/ice frozen locks because your window sweeps are rotted away sucks, so i no longer lock my doors

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

Funny cause I have very little wind noise in my car, then again my door panels have never been off and I'm sure that the big clear seal that covers the regulator and everything else under the panels might have a lot to do with it, cause I know when most people do any kind of work in the door those things never seal back up right and some people even just rip it off, I work in a dealer and have been in cars after a tech didn't put/seal it back and you can hear wind coming in, new cars by the way.

I made new water shields with heavy duty FEMA plastic, even used FatMat under the door panels. I still hear wind noise, but like I said, most of it is around the mirrors.

Down side of having rimless windows. I've noticed that almost all sports cars with rimless windows are a bit noisy inside. Minus these new ones that actually self seal when you close the door. Like the Corvettes and newer BMW's

Re: How much wind noise is in your cockpit?

I got very frustrated trying to chase down a loud wind noise from pax side of the kids car after new door and T-top seals and adjustment, which is what I thought the noise was. Turns out the pax mirror was hit or bumped inward, making the air gap smaller. Isn't really noticeable until you start looking close and comparing to driver side. Going to have to tweak this at next door disassembly...

It was extemely worth it to replace the T-Top Gasket. Quite a few to choose from on eBay. Fairly easy to do as well. Just take your time to clean out the old gasket and adhesive from the car, then put the new one in. I thought for sure the sound was coming from the bottom of the windshield, but after the new gasket, there was nothing but the purring engine...beautiful sound

I get some kind of whistling. Sounds like I'm riding on a jet, only not as loud.
Its not loud enough to be annoying, though I'd prefer no wind noise while on the road.
