speedo rebuild?
89 firebirds.
On the cluster in the dash we have a car that the speedo milage gears have gotten brittle broken and are falling out.
Who rebuilds these parts? Anyone have any suggestions/experience??
We tried to swap them with another part but have had no luck in getting it to work properly.

Re: speedo rebuild?
Dash instruments are the one thing I have never had any positive
success with. These things are delicate, and just seem to need
proper tools, & an artisans touch.
That being said, a whole replacement cluster from a reclamation project
is probably the path of least resistance. You might be surprised at the
results a WTB thread in the classifieds on this board might generate.
(It worked for me...)
Beyond that, I can't attest to what's available in "Central Illinois", but at
the risk of sounding like a smart-***, try a google search. I was able to
find a competent sounding shop here in Houston, but there were also some
national advertisers, for which shipping would be necessary.
Good luck.

Re: speedo rebuild?
I was looking at the 120s and 140s (i have parts and complete setups 4 both) and the circuit boards are different but the gears are the same and they all seem to have the same problem with the one gear.
There is one gear in between the trip and odometer thats on a metal rivit type pin and that one plastic gear looks like it has shrunk and froze to the shaft then just broke apart. Its a 2cent part holding up a 2 dollar car.

I have done some looking around at speedo places and for parts. I replaced the cluster parts with used once and it promptly broke again. Im just doing some research to see if anyone else has had the problem and what was done for the fix..
