92 Camaro Seat Questions
Has anybody run across new seat frames for sale? I have found OEM style seat foam and OEM style seat upholstery but no metal seat frames. Mine is the deluxe seat (low back, adjustable/removeable head rest).. Does anybody know if the passenger side seat frame (easier to find used in good condition) can be swapped with the driver's side just by swapping the seat rails and hinges? Or, when you pull the upholstery off a standard (high back, fixed head rest) seat, can it be modified to work as a low back seat with adjustable head rest (that is do they use a common seat back with a bolted on fixed head rest)? It seems the deluxe low back seat like mine is a rare bird in bone yards.....
Thanks...
Thanks...

Re: 92 Camaro Seat Questions
You *may* be able to swap a passenger seat to driver side, if you have a manual seat. IDK issues with the seat belt guide.
It would be hard to swap a passenger seat back to a driver side, the mount bolts are different-- the big torx bolt goes to the outside ( door side )
of the seat back, & the 2 smaller bolts toward the console. The seat bottoms are designed to be mounted to the backs in this manner.
We got some passenger seats from RCAR7395 to get good material for the driver side seat back. Haven't done it yet tho.
But no, you can't take a seat back from 1 side & swap it over without doing a mod to both the back & the bottom.
It would be way easier to get a good seat back & swap the material.
You'll need hog rings & hog ring pliers to install, a flat blade screw driver & good pair of side cutters to cut the rings off, along with good stamina to get them all off! Lol!!
Good luck

Re: 92 Camaro Seat Questions
So, I bit the bullet and picked up a couple of doner seats.. Found a driver's side seat that has a seat frame in really good shape, no bends, no cracks or broken welds.. That will solve my frame problem. I also picked up a high back seat so I could see if it could be modified.
Thought I would document the results. First as to interchangeability. The seat bottom frame is left right interchangeable. You would need to move the "spring" nut to the opposite side of the frame (easy to do). That's the nut that they hinge torx bolt next to the console screws into.. You also need to swap the outside hinge/latch mechanism since those are not interchangeable.
As to the high back/low back seat back frame. The high back and low back frames are not interchangeable unless you want to do a bit of work on the sheet metal. It could be done if one had to do it but a lot of work cutting the top of the high back, forming and welding.
As to the left right seat back swap. The seat back hinge is the problem. A good welder could probably cut the hinge and swap it to the other side of the frame. The hinge where the torx bolt goes is and extension of a pipe the runs all the way around the seat back and is what the sheet metal is welded to.. Again, it could be done if you are a good welder. Much easier that trying to convert a high back seat back frame to a low back one.
Good news for me is the low back driver's side seat I got happened to be in good shape.
