Digital Dash find?

Been wanting to do the digital dash swap, and I found a guy on CL who's willing to sell a working, full digital dash w/harness, dashpad, bezel, senors, etc. for $30 with $100 shipping. Seemed pretty reasonable to me, what do you guys think?

That's a steal! As long as everything works and it's in good shape that is. Just know you're in for a ride with the swap and a lot actually want to convert from digital to analog. Some say they can't see it during the day, gauges start failing, etc. I've ran into a few issues with mine but had a spare in case something went. So far so good.

Did you already buy this stuff? I'd be really cautious with that deal because that price is WAAAAAAAAY too low. I'd expect to pay $30. for the dash bezel alone!

I wouldn't. I bought mine off a guy on eBay from a Trans Am and it was literally like new. Only paid $150 altogether. This was about 2 months ago and it's been working excellent ever since. There are still people out there that don't hike prices just because.

How did your swap go? Was it pretty straight forward? I have an immaculate digital dash too and I'll be swapping it into my '91 GTA as soon as I get it back from the body shop.

Mine came original with the digital dash so it was more so a replacement. A swap I have no idea, it seems to be very involved however. Lots has to be done.

Re: Digital Dash find?

Well, the guy realized what he had and backed out. Oh well, the search continues I'm actually without a 'bird right now, just trying to amass the parts before I start so I may just try to find a GTA with the digital dash already in place.

But if I do end up having to swap one in, would I need to swap the whole heater/ac portion too or can I just use the "analog" system?

You would need the heater controls as well I believe. You're replacing the whole dash all the way back to the firewall including the harness. You might be better off just finding a GTA or Trans Am with the digital dash. Seems like way too much work for me. Some of the engine harness has to be changed as well I believe.

I think it just part of the hobby to put some time to make something to your car.
I hope to make that also but haven't got Digital dash and the wiring yet.. To expensive so far..

Re: Digital Dash find?

I just pulled everything out of a 84 berlineta.Everything!!!This car had a vibration and inpact sencer on the steering colum, security system, trailer wireing factory installed. The a/c heater stuff has all gota be made for the system.Lights washer motor and resavor.everything.tail lights harness appears to be standard.I've got mine out with the dash and wireing all still together. There's twice as many wires in this than a base bird.or s/c.I have another car i'm going to take apart soon.I may take the time to document it.The guy stuck me on the title so I'm thinking about putting it in a 85 s/c.

Re: Digital Dash find?

You can often fix the stuck tape decks with electrical parts cleaner.
Remove the head unit completely and spray the crap out of it with electrical parts cleaner, blow out with air, elec cleaner again, then allow to dry before reinstalling. I've fixed 2 third gen units this way. They worked perfectly after.

5,7l(dunno if it makes difference?) I was thinking about somewhere 3-400(negotiable, since its extra for me) But the postages are quite high I think since I live in Finland. I got wire harness, sensors, windscreenwasher bottle, whole dash with GTA pocket map. HVAC-thing and the displays of course. If you're intressed send me PM with your mail included. I can send pics etc.
