Seat Cushion Question

I found a set of tan leather seats out of a 93 Trans Am, they're in pretty good shape and the price is unbeatable (235 delivered) but the owner was saying the cushions in the front seats have gotten firm, but the leather is still soft. Does anyone know of anything I could do (other than replace the cushions) to soften them up?

Probably a stupid question with an obvious answer but how do you go about doing that?

Re: Seat Cushion Question

Just use a steamer. You may need to take the fabric off so you can get directly to the foam. The steam will open up the cells on the foam and expand it to make it softer. I work on airplane interiors and we do this to the seats all the time.

I'd imagine the steam would have a hard time penetraing leather so I might just replace the cushions since it sounds like I'll have to remove the covers anyway.

You need to remove the covers and then steam the foam cushion. It will be real soft after you do that and it will also swell up a little bit bigger then before you started. Do not steam the seats with the leather upholstery on them because the leather will shrink.
