Ashtray hook up

I'm installing new console in 87 firebird. Power source through lighter was never hooked up but appears the wiring is present. There is a black yellow n orange wire, does anyone have a clue how to hook these three wires up to ashtray power source?

Re: Ashtray hook up

Black wire (ground) goes to the outer shell of the Lighter socket, the hot wire (+12v) goes to the center connector. Just two wires.

Re: Ashtray hook up

No extra yellow wires on mine. So a picture is worth a thousand words. This is all the wiring in the console of my '85 TA.

Working from the bottom up.
Brown wire to the parking brake.
Orange and black plug into the glove box light.
The blue and clear plugs are power windows.
Light bulb laying on the shifter with gray and black wire goes in gear indicator.
Orange and black plug into cigarette lighter. They come out of the harness with the wires that plug into the shifter.
Up with the radio wires there is a pair of hot wires ( orange and brown ) that feed the radio. They are spliced into a yellow and orange pair. One is switched and the other is constant 12v+.

Hope that helps. It's all I got

Wow man, thank you so much for the in-depth description. I was planning on installing an ash tray but was very skeptical.

Re: Ashtray hook up

That other wire your talking about may be for the light switch for the consol lid or the switch for the emergency brake handle.
