Slow Windows & Bad locks
Hey guys,
My passenger side door is having trouble unlocking and locking when trying to do it automatically form the drivers side door. anyone have an idea how to fix that? key works fine, and can do it manually from the inside. could it be bad wiring?
Also rolling up and down the windows takes a long time.. what could be causing this?
I have a new battery, not sure if that makes a difference.
Any help works!
Thanx

Same here on my '90 T/A. It's just the respective motors being old, especially the window motors.
Speed may vary depending on environmental temperature and the only way to get this fixed is by replacing them.
Regarding the door lock: perhaps you can gain some improvement by WD-40ing rods and moving components over there, but chances are slim.

Try cleaning and relubing with white grease. You'll be surprised at how much better both mechanisms will function.

Cleaning and lubing the window tracks is always the best place to start, but don't stop there. A lot of lost performance comes from degraded switches, connectors and wiring. If you want to see how well the window REALLY works, hook a car battery directly to your window motor. I bet it will sail up and down!
New switches and sockets work wonders - sometimes pricey tho. Clean the motor sockets and switch sockets with spray electronic cleaner. Look for corroded plug and socket contacts - they should be bright and shiny. Burnish with 1000g sandpaper or dig inside them with a small pointy file. Use some contact dielectric grease.
Check the wires for broken strands at the socket ends, charred insulation, kinks or bare insulation - even where they're hard to get to (no cheating). Pull back the door boots and look in there. You can get switch bypass kits that use higher current wires to run the motors, and the switch runs a relay. (I did this on a Fiero - worked well).

Re: Slow Windows & Bad locks
I have the same problem and plan on tackling the windows this weekend.
As far as locks, the only thing I had to do was spray some WD-40 into the door lock sylenoid. It works like new now.

As far as the windows, all I did was replace the switches. The windows are 5x faster now. For the locks, just use some grease.

Re: Slow Windows & Bad locks
Um, I have a question regarding the window regulators...
What should be done about a sticky (actually, pretty much STUCK) roller or 2 on the regulator?
I know I need to go through and lube everything inside the doors (door locks are still sticking even after I've lubed them before), and clean up the guts of the motor on the driver's side regulator (new-ish passenger's motor). I also know that a couple of the rollers were sticking. But I don't know what to do about them? I popped at least one off the peg and ran some sandpaper around both the peg and the hole in the roller, but it didn't help much.
Just got the wiring upgrade going and the passenger's window is pretty quick now, but the driver's is S L O W...

Re: Slow Windows & Bad locks
Could be the roller is worn out - the hole is so big that the wheel gets cockeyed in the track.
If that's the case try wrapping some teflon tape around the shaft to build out the shaft a little. May work for a while.
Or it could be that the track is twisted or smashed in at some point and the wheel gets hung up. Have a buddy run the window up and down and watch (Also watch your fingers!)

Re: Slow Windows & Bad locks
No, the hole isn't oversized... It's a real pain to get off of the ****. It's almost like the hole is undersized, it's so tight. I suppose I'll try taking it off again and hitting the hole with sandpaper some more.
BTW, if I need another brush/cutout endcap for the motor, do I need to buy a whole replacement motor to get it? IDK how old the brushes are, but I'm 100% sure that the motor is factory to the regulator which was factory to my 87...
