Shifter **** help, really simple

I recently got an 88 RS V6 2.8 Liter. I want to put a new shift **** on it but haven't the slightest clue how to measure it. My real question is will this fit on my Camaro?

Thanks.

I'd take off the existing one and do measurements. To remove, look at the REAR of the shift ****. There's a small staple-like holder there. Take a very small screwdriver (jewelers is best) and gently pull the staple back until you can grab it with your fingers and pull it out. Then, lift straight up and the **** should slide off. Installation is the reverse.

Thanks! Any idea how to actually measure it? The one I want off
Amazon doesn't hav any measurements listed so I'm not sure if I should assume it's a universal fit.

Most aftermarket ***** come with multiple inserts to match up to the size of your shifter.

I can only speak from my experience with my 87; it is a solid shaft, meaning the **** isn't threaded. Plus, the top of the shaft had a plastic piece protruding which - when applied - allows the shift to be moved out of park. To measure something round like this, an inexpensive option ($1.98) is to go to Home Depot or Lowes and in the hardware aisle (screws, bolts etc.) look for a piece of plastic with holes in it and measurements written all over it. It's probably called a gauge measuring tool. It's good because it also has metric measurements on it for bolts and our cars do have a good amount of metric bolts and screws.

your car is a manual, you wont have the staple to remove your ****, just twist like hell, (pro tip: if it seems stuck twist hard to the right(clockwise) then snap it back(counterclockwise) it may take a few tries but it will usually bust the **** loose)

and yes most good shift ***** come with multiple inserts OR give you exact thread measurements
