What is this on my shifter plate? (pics)

Car: 87 Pontiac Trans Am
Engine: Lapouttre Racing 350
Transmission: Rebuilt 700r4 Mild shift kit
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.23 posi w/disc brakes
What is this on my shifter plate? (pics)
The shifter plate on the 87 that I am restoring Is busted all to heck and it does not have this knockout in the center between the door lock switches, I took the plate pictured below out of the 89 donor car... Im thinking this block is for the power mirrors? am I correct?
This is the block that goes into that spot on the 89 Donor car. Looks like the **** is broke if I am correct that this is for the mirrors. I will not be using this spot and Im wondering how I will cover this square because I would like to use the 89 plate in my 87. Any Ideas?

Best thing to cover that is with a switch. It will be hard to make anything else look good there. Otherwise, just get a plate without that hole, auto trans plates aren't that hard to cone by
