I want to convert a 82-89 dash to a 90-92 dash. Reason being i am planning on getting the aftermarket dash panel/gauge cluster with aftermarket autometer gauges. The dash panels for the 82-89 are ugly as hell to me and I'm not fond of the 3 3/8" speedo and tach which is why i want to use the 90-92 dash setup with the 5". So with that being said my gauges are going to be run separately so the stock cluster and wiring is a non factor. If i were to go to a junk yard to get a newer dash what wires would i need to keep intact, cut or not cut, or what won't even matter. I no longer have my camaro but am in the process of finding anywhere from an 88-90 iroc (finding the rare 90 iroc would eliminate this whole problem) so I'm trying to see if this is even worth it. any help would be appreciated
For anyone thinking about this; The dash housing brackets need to be cut/drilled off and the Dash housing brackets from a 90-92 need to be installed in order for this conversion to work. ( you can't just bolt-up the 90-92 housing to a 82-89 firewall ! )
(87 Coupe converted to 91 RS dash housing: )
Edit: PeepingTom -----> LOVE the custom interior,... VERY nice !

Dude same here. I went from an 86 carb to TPI. But I went the full swap with new fuel lines, a dash from 91 with the entire car harness and engine harness.
The dash was a pain in the **** :P. I cut the top two brackets off and used the two bottom. There is a way to make it work with minor modification for the bottom two brackets.
PS: I got a crack in my dash pad in the same area too lol
