86 Camaro Roll Cage???

alright so i have a 86 Camaro currently has a modified 305 but im purring a 600HP 383 in it that im building... that being said ive been told i would run mid 10's and drag strip regulations says convertable (mine is a T-top so i figure that is where it is classifies) running over a 12 in the 1/4 mile have to have a 4 point cage. and i am cool with a cage but having the side bars up top kind of defeats the purpose of the T-tops... that being said is there anyway to have a regulation 4 point cage without the side supports like connect a support in the center where the T-top bar/pillar (w/e its called) is ? or is there anyway to have removable bars for those 2 spots??? any input is helpful!!!!

Re: 86 Camaro Roll Cage???

Well I have a '91 formula with T-tops and just run a 6 point cage in the car....no issues with the track I go to and I'm in the mid to low 10's with mine...

Re: 86 Camaro Roll Cage???

im not worried about them interfering or keeping me from using them i just dont like the fact if i have the windows down and T-tops off i have the side bar of the roll cage there... and also im pretty sure im going to do a 6 point as well but requirements for the strip is the 4... do you know if they would allow removable side bars? i dont even know if they make such a thing but if they dont i can fabricate something up.

Re: 86 Camaro Roll Cage???

I had an 86 with T-Tops and a 6 point roll *bar. Good for 10.00 or slower....9.99 or faster, you'll need a 10 point or better cage...and most likely a license depending on your track. T-Tops are in the same class as hardtop. A convertible requires a roll bar if it's faster than 13.50.

*anything under 10 points is a bar, not a cage...

The only bars that can be removed are the door bars. They can be swing out or removable, and are legal to 8.5 and slower. You may want to check this out, it will fit your needs very well.
