Steering wheel lock pin won't extend (PICS)

Hopefully someone who's done steering column repairs can help...

The steering wheel lock pin does not extend when I turn the key to OFF. It extends a little, but not far enough to engage the lock plate when installed, preventing the wheel from turning freely. In essence, the gear that turns when you turn the key does push the pin backward, but there's nothing to force the pin forward when the gear is turned back to OFF. The pics below show the pin in the OFF and Accessory mode positions. Am I missing a part? Is there a spring or something that sits behind the lock pin to force it out?

This wasn't a problem at all before I tore apart my steering column. Thanks!

Ditto.

My stock unit was fine. I repaired my stock unit a little and still this locked the wheel properly after re-assemble. After having my column repaired by a shop, I've had this problem. Completely repaired column, but just doesn't move forward enough to lock the wheel. Sometimes if I jiggle the wheel and ignition cylinder with the key in, it comes out a bit more. But I did take apart my stock column myself and didn't notice any extra parts there. After the repair though, I'm having this problem. Am I also missing something?

P.S. The column moves as a whole side-to-side, not up and down, just side-to-side. Is this the mounting bolts under the dash causing this, just needing to be tightened?

your spring isn't in the right position.

Thanks I'll give it a go. I tried every which way to position it. I guess I missed that option.
