Remove window tint

The 92 RS I bought my Grandaughter for her 16th has real crappy tint on the windows. The hatch is so bad that it's dangerous at night. Any tips on removing the tint?

Thanks

Re: Remove window tint

I pulled the tint off by hand and used acetone to remove the adhesive left behind. When the tint started to split I used a single edge razor blade to remove it in sections. You have to be careful with acetone as this will strip paint and melt plastic. I used this process for aftermarket tint that was on my windows. If you are careful this is a great way to get rid of it.
For the factory rear window tint i used the trash bag method. What you do is remove the hatch from the vehicle and place it somewhere it will be in the sun, then pour ammonia over the windshield, and immediately cover the window with a black trash bag. The idea is to trap the ammonia over the entire surface of the tint with the trash bag. The trash bag, being black will absorb heat from the sun. Something about the ammonia working on the adhesive and the sun heating the tint removes the pesky factory window tint.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions.

Re: Remove window tint

You can use a steamer to steam the tint off the back window. It is a slow process, but works rather well.

Re: Remove window tint

I was thinking about removing the hatch. Is realignment difficult when I start to put it back?

Thanks

It's also VERY VERY heavy. I re-aligned my rear deck last summer, and was shocked at how heavy that hatch is when you take the struts off. I'd advise against removing it and try the other options first.
