Interesting Ideas. Tips, inspiration, wish list type stuff.
This happens to be my first post to the forums. I'm thankful to have found a group dedicated to the style of car I own. I've been browsing through for awhile and finally decided to become a member. Maybe this thread exists elsewhere and I just haven't found it. Alright, now to get into what I'm looking for:
Personally, I believe the interiors of 3rd gen Camaros are lackluster at best. Fortunately, I am much more performance oriented; thus, the interior will be one of my later concerns. (I already have a .040 over sbc 400 in the engine compartment, big cam, worked heads, 3500 stall converter, etc. More on the way but I digress as this is about the interior.) So getting into what I'm looking for, I'd like to see and hear about some ideas for revamping the interior and the school of thought surrounding them. Staying original, lightweight race, custom with all the bells and whistles, etc. Maybe some recommendations for shops and the like as well as sharing ideas. The beauty of this is that no one can be wrong because it comes down to what you as an individual thinks is cool.
So my vague personal end game for the interior:
For me, I'll end up with a roll cage so stock is out. I am, however, planning on running on the street as well and not being a dedicated track machine. I like the thought of brushed aluminum with black leather and some red stitching as an overall theme. I'll probably ditch the carpet to shed weight and replace it with some type of textured spray on. I'm not overly worried about road noise so sound deadening is not a major concern. I'll most likely fab a custom dash piece with brushed aluminum and mount aftermarket white face gauges in it. (Stock speedo only goes to 85? yeah I'm not havin that.) Really though, I'm just planning to avoid having to use the stock wiring harness and want the accuracy of gauges instead of dummy lights and the like. I know by the time I'm finished this is going to cost some money, but I'll have a classic meets race style interior that looks very cool and clean IMO. Any tips on what to do or not to do are very welcome. I welcome any ideas that are different than my own. I hope to see some unique and interesting ideas here as well as thoughts on how to make them a reality. Let's get those creative juices flowing!

Thought I'd link this to my other thread since that's where my new stuff will likely go. As an update, college and a kiddo on the way put my project on the back burner. My son is here now and I think I'll start making some progress again when the weather breaks. My focus will be getting the car right mechanically before I start into any real interior work. Feel free to share up some inspirations or budget friendly ways of doing a decent interior. Mine may shift a bit further to the race car side in the future.
