Shifter gear indicator led

Hi all,

I dont know if this subject has already been covered, but mine is a simple question. This car have some leds that indicate the gear/mode you are using, in the shifter plate.

Is there any way in the pre-1990 cars to obtain such a feature?
At least, in 82-90 cars, is it possibile to figure out when you are in D and thus activating a led?

It would be very usefull.

thanks!!

every car has a light there, but the one in picture has an additional led indicator that tells you your actual gear. Mine (1989 GTA) doesnt have it. It just have a light :/

Wiring something up shouldn't be too hard. Run + to a series of LEDs and install a small spring steel trigger on the - side of each one. Then just mount a metal arm on the shifter mechanism to contact each piece of spring steel to complete the circuit for each LED in turn as you move the shifter. Mounting it and getting it aligned would be the hardest part.

Re: Shifter gear indicator led

so you say that this part (with indicator LEDs) is compatible with a pre-1990 firebird? That is, I can buy one and mount it on my 89 GTA?

The manual procedure you pointed out seems kinda complex

thanks!

i guess its cheaper to simply buy the whole console with the lights and everything plus I'm sure in the future is not bad to have a spare.
