Mounting later Firebird door cards to earlier cars?

1982-1986 Camaro and Firebird used the same cutouts for the door panels.

For some reason in 1987 Pontiac decided to mix things up and changed the door pull surround trim styling.

Wondering if anyone had gone about mounting up the 87+ Firebird cards to the earlier doors using the earlier door pull trim panel.

Was it a simple job just cutting the whole larger? Does the earlier trim cover up any hack work that's needed?

I also see there's an even more changed door panel with the 87+ style trim cover too, but obviously that can't be retrofitted with the 82-86 trim plate.

Third question, if I was to give in and use the armrest/pull trim/etc from the later car would it bolt right up to the earlier door or are the mounts different?
