power window problem

hey guys having some trouble with my passenger side power window on my 1990 irocz 350 tpi seems to be getting weak and wont work sometimes .... the question is ... does the power window motor come with the regulator in an all in one or are they separate? how can i confirm that it IS the motor or regulator?

Re: power window problem

Its the motor for sure along with all the dried up old grease in the tracks. The motors come separate from the regs. Drill out rivets and install new motors with the screws

Re: power window problem

There is actually something I noticed, instead of rewiring the window switches to act on relays, (which is supposed to make them faster), I did something else, I upped the guage wire from 14 to 12, all the way from the fuse box to the power distribution block and then from the block to the splice going to both switches. I also upped the ground from the 14 to a 10 (I believe). The response from the motors improved greatly.

Then last year, I tore into my harness again, and eliminated the "C238" junction block in the drivers side footwell that is present on f-body's until 1989.

I noticed immediatly afterward that the response improved even moreso. My suggestion for anyone trying to get a bit more "umph" out of the motors is to upgrade the wiring and remove that stupid junction block. That block has a bit of volt drop associated with it. (Never had to wire in relays for my motors) And compared to a friend's f-body, my windows run up and down in the time it takes for his windows to go up.

Re: power window problem

No doubt anything you can do to reduce voltage loss is a good thing! The relay mod tho whether its the express down mod or standard relay mod is to alleviate the switches themselves from carrying a voltage load-thats the biggest resistance in the whole circuit. I had a member on the nastyZ28 site use my express down window kit and it most goes down TOO fast-lol! I suggested he use a resistor inline just to cut back a little bit....the window literally flies down and shoots up in the tracks! If there was only some way to add a limit switch to close slowly @ the last inch or so that'd be killer.....
