Today was a big day for it, I water tested the leaking spots that I sealed and no water came in. I got the front new carpet in along with the firebird center console and radio pod I picked up off here. Was gonna do it all until I noticed a random puddle in the trunk pan. I have no idea where the water came in and never even felt any kind of dampness back there. Even the old carpets insulation was still good in the trunk pan area. I'm wondering if the trunk motor didn't pull the hatch down all the way since I've had my doors open a lot lately.
Here's a pic of it with some of the red interior installed
How is the roofline interior from the drip rails on this car?
Have you had the headliner out?
Headliner is out. if you were to sit in the drivers seat and look up, there is corroded metal on the front edge near the t top gasket, it's next years project
Figured I'd give some finished swap pics since all I have left to do is put the horn button on, speaker covers, and under dash panels.
I love the finished results, and its a dream getting into one of these old cars and smelling fresh carpet and a good air freshener. a lot better than the moldy wet old rotting carpet smell lol. thank you everyone for the advice and help
Looks great! And yeah, the new carpet smell is so nice. Wish I went that route instead of this 'mint' black original carpet I bought. Yeah, LOOKS mint... till it was hot out. Wreaks! haha
Dude, looking at this thread on the floors is like De'Ja Vu for me. The exact same rot was in my 87 IROC, the pictures you posted about the replacement panels are almost identical. Keep up the good work man.

Hah thanks man, from what I've seen these are the typical places where rot on the floors in these cars form. Passenger side was from the tpi engine harness coming through the frame to reach the ecm. Driver side was a missing grommet on the firewall, window seals, and 30 years of muddy snowy New England weather being dragged into the car by owners.
What I've learned from all of this is that most people automatically assume it's the t top gaskets causing all of that rot and nothing else but in my case, the t top leak was centered directly over the driver seat and would never reach the floor unless there was no driver seat.
Mine is the same. I had some rot at the t-top channel too, but not causing my floors to go. If you get a chance, check out my thread . I still have a wayyyyyyyyyys to go though. Just glad to meet a fellow crazy person to take on the task of restoring one .

Hah I have the same rot on the t top channel, that's my project for the spring, ran out of time this year and it's way too cold and snowy now to be doing it in the driveway
