Cavalier Z24 steering wheel in 87 Formula
Hi,
Since I first got my bird, I hated the original steering wheel. Saw a post on this forum where someone had a question on whether the Cavalier steering wheel would fit the F body. It does and its a simple take off the old one and put on the new one. Everything is the same including the horn wire placement. Driving with this wheel is a delight. It fits nicely in the hand and I think it looks good. I am sure some may not agree.
I have no idea the year of the car, somewhere in the early 90's. The car I got it from was pristine inside, with front end damage. The bucket seats were excellent and would fit nicely in a F body. No, I did not get them.
All I had to do was clean up the wheel and it was good to go. I have no plan on changing the logo on the horn, since the color matches the car.

This wheel was also available in the Cavalier RS in 1990 (we had one). And it is a nice wheel to hold.

Thanks guys for your comments. I took the wheel out for a ride yesterday (and it does have a nice feel. Getting ready to get the car ready for the long dreaded NE winter.

That emblem will pop out and I bet a 1970s Trans Am emblem will go in it's place. Or one from a T1000 maybe.

Always thought that was a great looking steering wheel, especially considering that it comes from an otherwise boring/cheap car. The horn button definitely looks out of place though. With it being so small, it's probably going to be tough to find something OE that's more appropriate that can be swapped out. If all else fails, you can always just rattle can it Black and get an arrowhead decal off eBay.

I ordered a new steering wheel like this.
But I can only find the ugly rectangular horn button.
I need one like the one pictured, in black. Any emblem in the center.
PLEASE if anyone has/can get one, let me know.

Hi No Emmisions, The one in the photo is mine and I got it from a bone yard in Southington called Chuck and Eddies. I see you are from Meriden. they are not too far from you. I was at the yard last week and did see a cavalier and it had the wheel and the horn button. You might want to take a ride.

Re: Cavalier Z24 steering wheel in 87 Formula
So I went to Chuck & Eddies today. They had 2 Cavaliers, one a Z24.
Both horn button sheet metal backing plates were there, but the rubber coverings were gone.
Both were rectangular. So I searched all the cars in the A (American) section - NADA.
WOW, have cars changed in the way they are made since the last time I was in a junkyard - plastic, styrofoam, V8s mounted sideways, etc. Completely disposable. It's no wonder that there are so many car restoration shows on now - nobody is ever going to restore many models beyond year 2000.
