'92 Trans Am trip odometer reset issue

I'm having an issue with the odometer and trip odometer reset on my '92 Trans Am. When I press the reset on the trip odometer, the trip and regular odometer stop working. It will start working again eventually, but not right away. I drive about seven miles from home to work, and I didn't notice until my return trip home. The next day it worked fine and has seemed to work fine since, but I haven't pushed it again.

I removed the speedometer and opened it all up. Everything looks fine. I don't see any broken gears or wiring. the levers look like they are all functioning properly. When I press the reset, I don't see anything loose or malfunctioning.

I have another speedo that I can swap in, but it has an additional 10,000 miles I'd rather not have on my odo if possible.

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar issues or has any ideas how to fix it.

A few of mine have the same issue, I have taken the **** off the reset button and removed the black plastic sleeve, it helped a little bit. It all gets in a bit of a bind so I normally just deal with it.

My guess is that you'll be replacing the speedo gear in the odometer soon as well.

I checked the speedo gear when I pulled everything out. It looks fine. No cracking or wearing at all really. Is in there pretty solid as well. No abnormal movement at all.

Maybe the lever doesn't come all the way back up. Try spraying some thin lubricant on the ends of the wheels and the reset lever pivot points. I took a cluster apart and noticed that the grease was EXTREMELY thick at this point and all the wheels were hard to turn

I looked at mine and all the gears were good except that 1 goofy gear that had turned to goo on the metal shaft. It was hard to see the broken teeth with the electric motor in the way.
