Damn shift **** ball on 83 z28
I AM HAVING TROUBLE REMOVING THE BALL SHIFT **** ON AN 83 Z28
IS JUST SCREWING IT OFF THE ANSWER ?

I had a similar issue with my T5 shift ****.. I used gardening gloves such as this: http://www.gloves.trader.uk.com/asse..._500_310_1.jpg
for the grip. Sounds ridiculous, but it worked for me...
You can find these at any hardware / lawn and garden store.

If it's the auto trans round shift ball, you have to first pull the button up and out and when you look down in the ball you'll see the round circlip that needs to be removed. That's all!

Thanks, I am glad I asked first... I twisted it a little but figured there was something else I needed to do first...

Depending on the YEAR of your auto equipped cam/bird.
It MAY have a "clip" holding the shifter ball on the shifter shaft.
(Looks like a staple near the bottom front outside of the shifter ****)
