1992 Trans Am 5 speed NOS pedals replacement project
Hello all,
Here are some pics and steps for pedal replacement in my 92 TA 5 speed convertible.
First of all, for the clutch and brake pedal, I highly recommend letting the new pedal pads sit in the sun for a while. Getting them hot makes them softer and MUCH easier to slide on to the pedals.
For the clutch and brake pedals:
Remove the existing worn out pads by grabbing the rubber lip of the pad on the backside of pedal at the top and on one side and pull off. This will take some effort. Then slide the new pad onto each pedal from the bottom up and hold the top of the lip of the pedal up and work the pad onto the pedal. This will take some work, but again, it's much easier if you let the pads get hot first.
For the gas pedal:
Take a fine tipped pic, bend the pedal back to access the rod that attaches the accelerator pad to the pedal, and push the rod through the accelerator arm. Lift the hook of the spring off of the accelerator arm and remove assembly. Take the new accelerator pedal, push the rod through the right side of the pedal assembly and put rod through the spring, with the long straight part of the spring sticking up against the backside of the pedal assembly. Line up the pedal and rod with the hole on the accelerator rod, and place the rod in the space between the spring and the other side of the pedal and slide the rod completely through the hole on the accelerator arm.
