Tried replacing gauge cluster bulbs with LEDs and weird things started to happen
Tried replacing gauge cluster bulbs with LEDs and weird things started to happen
I pulled the cluster because I had some burnt out bulbs, decided to go LED while I was back there. I made VERY sure to put the bulbs and sockets back in the exact position they were originally in. I know polarity matters.
After they were all done, the turn signal lights in the instrument cluster work, but they are always ON when I turn on my headlights. They still work if I try to indicate either way, but when I'm not indicating, they're just on. I messed with all the bulb and socket positioning combinations but ultimately this was the best result I could muster. I put the incandescent bulbs back in, same problem.
Additionally, during all this messing around, my high beams were stuck on. The high beam switch did nothing. Somewhere along the way, between hitting the high beam switch, turning the lights on and off, and switching back to incandescent bulbs, they went back to normal and now function normally.
What does all this mean? Where did these gremlins come from? The cluster and head lights/high beams were in perfect working order up until now. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your dimmer switch was set too low and the LEDs didn't like the fact they were being dimmed. I had sort of the same issue with my old truck and the dimmer switch was the issue. As for the headlights I have no idea.
