So I'm removing the carpet from my plastics and the carpet on the large rear pieces covering the wheel well and stuff has this thick foam like stuff under the carpet.


Is that for insulation? Sound deadening? What is it and is it necessary to replace? Only way it came off was in pieces. If I were to replace it, what kind of material would you use?
