Im wondering if i should opt for the shaved base on these GTS IIs, or if just using the 4th gen brackets will keep them low enough. At about 5'11" I barely fit with a helmet in the stock seats. all advice from anyone who has these seats would be greatly appreciated.
Shaved base will put you really close to the stock seat height, if you have a problem with the stock height, you will still need more. I have a big melon, and with a helmet, I need more....
I have them, with the shaved bases and they are still kinda tight to fit honestly I even went as far as to cut and lower the brackets and I still feel like it’s about an inch too tall
How did you modify the brackets? I took them off completely, so that the seat 'square' was all that was left, then added tabs to the frames that put the 'squares" flat on the floor.
Yeah that’s basically exactly what I did. I chopped all the mounting feet off, dropped the base on the floor, lifted it just enough to be level and welded them there
Do you guys have any pictures of these seats installed in your cars? It sounds like I'll need to get them with shaved bases. Are you guys using the Corbeau sliding seat brackets or the originals?

Yes you definitely need shaved bases and 4th gen brackets. I'm using brackets and sliders from Wedge which were supposedly the lowest and I still lost a half inch of head room. If you can spare that tho the seats are awesome and very comfortable.

Is that with manual brackets or will power 4th gen brackets give the same results?
This is with the Wedge manual sliders. I couldn't comment on the hight of the stock power ones. Not even sure if the Corbeaus would bolt onto those directly. I wouldn't bother with power personally.
Thanks for the pictures and info, Racca. Those seats look great in your car! Makes this decision much easier. I'm probably going to order the black and grey microsuede with shaved bases. Debating on whether or not I want the inflatable lumbar... I want it but I'm unsure how hokey, in the way, and likely to get damaged the inflator bulb and hose could be.
Another question for you if you don't mind, Racca. Did you have a reason for choosing the Wedge brackets over the Corbeau for 93-02? I definitely want to have sliders.

Anything to help! I wish I had someone to answer all this when I was trying to figure this out lol. For such a common upgrade there's shocking little real detailed info on what works and what doesnt.
I kinda wish I'd gone with the suede too but stuff started getting too expensive in the process. The cloth is nice and seems plenty durable but I think the suede would look and feel awesome. I think they have plenty of lumbar support in stock form but if you like alot you may want to get that.
I went with Wedge because I was told the Corbeau brackets were really tall and Wedge is the lowest. I cannot confirm that for the Corbeau ones but I will say, I don't see how Wedge could have made them any lower than they are.
im 5'11" i cut the feet off the stock manual seat tracks as low as i could. was kinda a pain since i was measuring at home then welding them at work. you can see in the first pic the height difference. theyre a little tall for me but i might have also been used to the blown out stock seats. also just a FYI 2 door cobalt/ g5 or g6 seat guides work perfect but you just gotta drill some new holes.
This is the first time I am seeing this seatbelt guide. Do you have a part number for that? I have these seats for another car, but didn't know that was available.
Thanks Racca. It's definitely great to have this feedback from you guys who have been there, done that.
Great info, Swapper. Maybe I'll try modifying the stock brackets as well, I think I have a couple sets just not sure of what . Great tip on the Cobalt/G5 seat belt guides! Gotta look for a set next time out to the pick n pull. Seats look great in your car too, definitely what I want to get. Thank you!
got curious today, pulled out the stock GTA seats, weighed them cause I wondered what the weight savings were. The poor bolsters went flat from being stacked for so long, but they weighed in at about 55 pounds with the sliders.
love Corbeau's.
I used the 4th Gen sliders. Asked if they had any defects. Saved a bunch, and I cannot tell even after they told my where the defect was.
Leather was the only option to avoid trademark branding (absolutely hate it). I'll buy your product, I just don't want to be your advertisement.
Had upholster match the console cover the French seaming. Purchased extra hide to upholster the backs to the same

Racca, Do you happen to know if the wedge brackets are as low, or lower than the 4th gen?
I'm ordering a set of corbeaus with a shaved base, but I'm also going to be running these Seat Extension Brackets that are a 1/4" thick. I really need the lowest set up I can find. I might even cut the carpet padding out so these brackets sit lower.
I do not know how they compare to the stock 4th gen brackets if that's what you mean. If your using those plates tho you may be able to cut the tabs off the back if the bracket and weld directly to those plates.
I'm 6'6, 230, and need some low seats, clearly. Yes I know at that height I should probably be driving a city bus not a Camaro, but where's the fun in that.
I was told today by a Corbeau rep that the 'shaved' GTS IIs base height was 3 inches and standard is 4 inches. Some of there other seats are 2.5 inches but they are far more 'race car'. Does anyone know the base height of the stock third gen seat for comparison?
I've read here that I should use the 4th gen bracket to save an inch, but I've also heard that the Fiero bracket is flat to the floor. Will both bolt in to a third gen? And which actually is lowest?
Thanks in advance, this thread has been very useful.
Update, I bought the seats. Leather with the shaved base, and instead of the third gen brackets, I bought the fourth gen brackets.
Corbeau warned me that the fourth gen brackets were slightly different than the third gen brackets and may not bolt in. They did say the fourth gen brackets were 1/2 inch lower but did not provide specific measurements for bracket height. They provided measurements for the bolt pattern of both third gen and fourth gen brackets and the measurements provided were within an 1/8th inch of each other. Close enough to send it in my opinion.
The seats however were offset in the fourth gen brackets. So much so that the passenger seat interfered with the lower seatbelt mount and could not move backward. The driver seat was about a 1/2 inch too close to the door, and the passenger seat was about 1 1/4 inch too close to that door.
The solution:
Drill new holes. I offset the seat mount postion for each bracket by drilling new holes in each bracket, 1/2 inch to the right for the driver's seat and 1 1/4 inch to the left for the passenger seat. This worked great, see photos below. The seats are now positioned well and there is no interference or rubbing on the centre console or the seat belt mounts.
The good:
Seats a firm and comfortable, though, a big person may feel some pressure on their thighs from the thigh bolster.
The bad:
The seats don't give you any more head room if you're tall, my head is still about the same height from the roof as the stock seats. This is because the Corbeau seats are considerably stiffer than a 35 year old stock seats and you don't 'sink' into them.
The seat belt rubs against my neck while driving, I haven't found a seat belt guide but that should be an easy-ish solution by attaching something to the head rest posts.
The head rest is very straight, and might as well not exist since the seat needs to be reclined for me to fit. I will see if I can bend the posts 20-30 degrees to solve that issue.
The rear seat can no longer fold down with the Corbeau seats in the rear most position. This is particularly annoying for me as I play hockey and a hockey bag will only fit in the cargo area with the seats folded down. I have removed the rear seats, no one sits back there anyway and this way I can call it a racecar.

Fighting this issue now. for now, I have them with the plastic covers off of the seats, but i want to put them back. Did you try flopping the brackets? IE passenger side bracket on drivers seat? I was debating on doing that first honestly!
For those who have these seats, how deep is the sitting surface? I'm looking at getting a pair come winter and I'm hoping they sit like a modern vehicle. Right now the base seats the seat pad ends half way down the back of my legs and it feels like I'm sitting in a kitchen chair. I'm hoping that these are low enough and sit deep enough that I'm closer to the floor and have support all the way to the back of my knees.
Found these on Amazon and they look identical (in pictures at least) to the G5 ones. They should be here in a couple days, so I will update this thread ASAP.
The ones I purchased from Amazon fit PERFECTLY. The holes lined up without drilling and the angle comes down at the exact right spot. Literally a 5 minute job and look great!
