I was thinking about swapping the whole interior or some of it like the seats , dash, console and wondering if any one tried it and what was needed?

I think the interior of a first gen belongs in a first gen, thirdgen in a thirdgen, and sixthgen in a sixthgen. Subtle "upgrades" do look nice, but even on the ultra custom hand built hotrods, I just think the modern looking interiors just don't fit the look and feel of classic cars.JM2C.
But you didn't ask for my opinion. As for whether or not it will work, I think the two biggest hurdles will be "A" fitment, and "B" functionality. The fit may work due to dumb luck, but if not, as you start to cut and trim to make things fit, the overall look and feel...and the appearance of quality....really start to degrade. A lot of early year cars are much easier to cross/fit to each other because while the pieces are different from year to year, the basic manufacturing methods were very similar. Modern manufacturing allows for much more complex pieces, and fitment....my hats off to you if ya make it work. The other part is that so many things on the thirdgen interior are either physical/mechanical levers and simple electronic switches. The 6th gen is literally all under computer/CANbus control. One of the reasons I sold my 16. -It's great today, but all but guaranteed to fail tomorrow, and after a few years, no parts support, if you even know HOW to fix it. Let alone how to get it work right in an entirely different car. Hey, some people just understand electronics in a way I never will.
Possible? Um, yeah I suppose it's possible. -and even though I don't care for the look, I'd be 100% on board with someone taking it on. Love seeing people take on projects that haven't been done. Best of luck. Some of the coolest things out there are the things people didn't think you could do!
