88 power antenna help

Hello, I have broken 2 antenna repair kits, they are so fragile. The nylon cable keeps snapping. I have 2 complete set ups. One is brand new now with a snapped cable.

any ideas from people who have a working reliable power antenna would be great.

ive been trying to find a corvette set up because the cable looks like it was changed to fit in the grooves of the gear instead of just a cable running wild around a wheel and anchored down with a hook.

thank you

Re: 88 power antenna help

Just buy the Crown 56003151 for $80 give or take and you have an entirely new power antenna that simply needs the mast turned 180 degrees and splice three wires to install. The antenna looks, fits and works exactly as factory for our cars even though they are for older jeeps. If your really a stickler for factory looks simply swap the finial from your car to the new antenna.

Re: 88 power antenna help

I had Barney Eaton rebuild mine. Been quite a few years now, and it still works great. That nylon ribbon gets replaced with vinyl coated wire cable. There are also posts here on this forum on how to do that yourself. Note the date on that forum reply...pricing may have changed in 9 years.

Re: 88 power antenna help

I did the (speedo) cable upgrade when the nylon part snapped. So far so good, that's two plus years now. I also bought the crown piece as a back up, but i want to swap the cable before i ever need to use it.

ya I have the crown, bolts right up, snapped the cable after a few goes lol, what do you mean by turn the mast 180? It fit in how my stock one did no modding. Anyways I took it apart and rebuilt it with some woven steel cable. Brilliant idea thanks everyone!

The antenna cable exit is on the "wrong" side for our cars. It should be opposite the arrow.
