Hey!

Just posting to see if i can get any ideas or maybe some help on my 89 formula 305 tbi as the odometer and trip meter both stopped working at the exact same time. I looked into it a little bit and didn’t see anyone else have this exact problem, but I have seen that the gears for the odometer and trip meter are horrendous and break quite often. Before I rip my dash apart I just want to know if it could possibly be the signal converter (I think it’s called?? I’m not familiar with any of this) and if there is any way of accessing anything without having to take the dash apart.

The speedo cable could have broken (1st choice), the speedo gear in the transmission may have become stripped, the speedo/odo unit may had it gears stripped.

 

It's the little gear in the cluster.
a few threads on here about it.
A google search of thirdgen.org will bring up better results than using the search here.

I used that same kit a few months ago. Mine works like new now.

 

No speedometer cables for 86+ Firebirds. It's electronic and gets signal from the VSS.

Camaros kept cables up until '89 I think.
