the ones i've seen have mounted them right after the 90 degree elbow. Fbodymotorsports.com sells a kit for it and has a pic of it on there website so you can check that out.

I'm ordering this elbow right now (4" to 3.5")...
...and then mounting my MAF to it, then using a 3.5" to 4" rubber adapter to hook up to a straight piece of 4" semi exhaust which will go strait over to this piece....
...and will be welded where the black mark is on the pipe in this pic. (after I cut the pipe at that line or course, ha!). Then that piece in the pic will have tabs welded to it that will use bolts to bolt to the factory tapped holes for the charcoal canister bracket. Then underneath the car is the big 4" inlet, 9" long K&N cone filter out of Jegs. It should all work out well, I'll post pics as soon as its done.
later!

i have that same elbow above..
4" to 3.5" 90* elbow..... 4" goes onto throttlebody, 3.5" side goes to MAF.
then i have a 3.5" to 4" hump hose going from the MAF to a 45* tube.... then i have my K&N at the end of that tube.
temp intake for me, if i was running it that way forever, id probly extend the 45* tube to go point the air filter down and thru where the fake battery box is, and get the cold air from under there....
my intake (aka big donkey dong)

big enough that when others pull their "non restrictive, i dont know why you have such a big filter travis" cones off and see a solid .05 sec diff at the track, i see no diff...
also, its going to be mounted vertically, so that you cant see it, it gets cold air, and if it becomes submerged, it can still pull air from the top, and not water...
summit part number is KNN-RE-0880
size is:
4" outlet
6" diameter at the wide end
4.625" dia at the narrow end
14" long ( yea.. 14"....)
its $49 bucks thru summit...
and no, its not compensating for anything.

Is anyone having problems with the radiator hose warming up the intake air? My hose is running right along the intake tubing and I fear that Its going to be heating up the air. Is there something i can do? I was thinking getting that bendable radiator hose from summit and route it around the intake tubing, but its kinda expensive.

i tried everything i could to not run into this problem with the heater hose. short of stepping down in size which wasn't possible i just put my sensor in that area for the slight bend with the rubber sectional so i could keep the 4" all the way through.
