What can I do to my LT1 to make it really really fast?

Well guys im pretty new to this stuff but have learned a ton. I was wondering what I could do to my LT1 to get it up to 350 or more HP without a super or turbo charger. I would like add one of those systems later on. the engine wont actually be run for quite a few years so ill probably be able to put the turbo or super on it once I save up the money. The LT1 has the iron heads and I would like to get the engine up to 500 RWHP if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start out with the simple "free mods" like de-screening the Mass Air Flow Sensor, Porting the Throttle Body, etc.

Then do an exhaust system. Go for long tube headers, stainless steel piping (2.5" or 3") and a low-resistance free-flowing muffler.

Then do intake. Ivest in the Moroso Cold Air Intake off of www.yearone.com

Then do an LT4 conversion. That involves an intake manifold, heads, and a cam.

That should put you right where you want to be. Around 300-320 rwhp. Then you just throw on a 100-150 shot of nitrous and you have 400-450rwhp with no forced induction.

***NOTICE***
By doing this your stock parts can not handle a lot of it. You WILL have to do a PCM tuning, and you will also need to consider swapping stuff out such as getting solid transmission and motor mounts, and also adding a torque converter and shift kit to your transmission.

ALSO, to be able to effectively use this power, a 3.73 gear set and a set of sticky tires is a MUST.

Port the iron heads, I have read that they flow better than the aluminum ones, port the intake.

I've read bad things about descreening the MAF on ls1tech in the LT1 section (which would be a good place to find lots of things you can do) dump the opti and get a delteq (for reliability) although my opti is still going strong.

If you can find one, get a 1LE elbow which is smooth on the inside and a CAI.
A CC306 cam would work great, but you will have to change the valve springs, do a 3 or 5 angle valve job.

Definatly do headers, LT or shorties, either will be fine, just be careful for clearance issues with the long tubes.

You won't have to run solid motor mounts or tranny mount, get the energy suspension poly mounts and you will be fine, I know people putting 400+ with the LS1's using these mounts with the 6-speed.

The F-body LT1's put down around 240-250 at the wheels, and that cam and porting should get you around 300-325 or so, maybe with a real good tune on the car. And, best thing....depending on which year the motor is, if it's a 94-97 model, dump the 700R4 and get a 4L60E which would work better with the PCM, if it's a '93, you will be all set for the 700R4.

money wont be a limiting factor on this engine too much. Would going all out and getting a new set of heads, cam, all new stronger internals, and long tubes get me there? The tranny im gonna be going with is a t56 and all the suspension stuff will be redone as well as me getting a 3.73 rear end with disc brakes converted to c5.

Sorry I can't resist.... drop a LS1 in it.

*Really though... nice cam/heads, longtubes/exhaust, tune, and a clutch/gears or a stall/gears.

Just do what I did, get the heads ported and add a custom cam.. do a search for Lloyd Elliot or Advanced Induction.. Lloyd can be reached at nighttrain66@msn.com lots of talk on these two in LT1 tech on cz28.com..

got me 370+rwhp and 360rwtq.. search my few posts and you will find a parts list for the setup.

With longtubes people have taken this setup to over 400 rwhp.

Lloyd Elliot's page is www.eportworks.com BTW, kinda a crappy page but it has details on his ported heads/custom cam packages... Pretty affordable for what you get, has a GREAT reputation on camaroz28.com...

If you just want 350 crank and not rear wheel hp you can probably get by with just all the bolt ons (headers/catback, Cold air kit, custom tune, etc) and a Hotcam kit w/ the stock heads, it won't be too far off 350rwhp with that setup either for that matter...
