LT1 Block and Gen1 Heads

I have and i seem to be either searching the wrong terms or i jsut cant find anything.

My question is, what needs to be done to use an LT1 block with GEN1 heads.

A local is down right now and selling his rebuilt forged LT1 block for $400. Heres what is going with it.

"ill also give w/ this all my other misc lt1 pieces, a water pump some wires a complete harness only good for the connectors, some other misc lt1 stuff, lifters, timing chain cover, oil pan and an lt1 alternator and stock manifolds "
Since my spare motor is fixing to be rebuild i figured this might save me some time going this route.

Thanks, Brian

Why do you want to do this? The LT1 heads flow better than the Gen 1's and plus with the reverse cooling you would end up with alot having to weld up the water passages in the heads where the intake water passages are and fixing them for the steam lines that you need as well.

Best thing to do is buy a set of LT1 heads and have them ported, or a set of LT4's and an LT4 intake.

B/c i can get a real good deal on the above mentioned motor and i already have L98 heads. Plus i wont have to wait on machine work and assembly.

Thats all that i was looking for. I know that LT1/LT4 heads would be better and flow better. But i dont have any LT1/LT4 heads and probally wont have the money to buy some by the time its all done. Plus ill then have to get an intake to go with the heads and them have to go completly LTx or get the intake drilled for a dizzy. Im also doing my own tuning on 730's and 165's and the only way i can keep my hardware and software with a LTx ecm/pcm is to get everything from a 93'. Ill just stick to the GEN1 rebuild.

Thanks though.

how about you snag a set of LT1 heads and intake off camaroz28.com or ebay for about $250 and be done with it and not have some mismatched engine?

you would most definately be able to buy a pair considering the amount of money you're going to spend to adapt a pair of inferior heads.

Buy LT1 heads and intake on ebay. They are really cheap and you will be worlds ahead.

Putting SBC heads on an LT1 would involve drilling lots of holes in the heads.

There are plenty of gen 1 heads that flow much better than LT1 heads, just not the ones you mentioned.

The conversion to reverse flow cooling runs around 450$.. go to cz28.com and do a search for reverse flow conversion. It is not a conversion for the corner shop to do.

As others have mentioned it is NOT worth the money unless you are converting some Brodix, WP, or other good gen 1 head.. People do this because you can get a better head on an LT1 for about the same dollar value as a well setup AFR.. Not cheap, my new heads for my LTX stroker are costing me 2500.00 so far..

For the price you can get a set of used LT1 heads for less.. around 200.00 or so if you look around at the site mentioned above..
