smog legal cat placement

I need to take the car to a referee after i get my swap done. Do the cats need to be in the same location as the third gen car or the ls1 engine? I have searched for this and i see they cant be moved more than 1" from the stock location.

I've seen people post this but it never made sence to me because you putting an engine in a car that it wasn't meant for. also aren't the cats bolted to the manifolds on the LS1's

i was told that cats are part of teh body. Therefore they cannot be moved more than 1" from the stock location on the body. But, it seems that people here are saying it needs to be where they are on the 4th gen. Im not sure, but i beleive it won't fit there.

I know this guy he left his driver side LS1 cat in factory location and put the passenger side cat in the same place the the 3rd gen cat would go and he passed with flying colors. Thats way more than an 1".. I think you will be fine when you go. Just have all the smog stuff right and 4 O2 sensors and i think you'll pass. Im about to get my LS1 in my car so tell me how it goes so ill know what to expect.
