Optispark Failure?

I recently finished my LT1 swap into my 84 Camaro. The car has about 3000 miles on the swap now (I picked it up from a low mileage junker car). Recently the car has no power above 3-3500rpm. If you stay in the throttle above that rpm range the car will start bucking and surging. Last night it threw a code and check engine light came on, but before I could get home (driving at 2000rpm) the check engine light had went out.

Is this the signs of a failing opti? (recently upgraded the stock coil to a msd blaster unit)

Will the PCM still recall the code even after the check engine light has went out?

Codes get stored in the computer, check the codes, then troubleshoot.

Re: Optispark Failure?

When the opti failed in my '97 after the water pump took a dump, it basically acted like half the spark plug wires were disconnected - no power, sounded rough, shook like a ****, and the SES light came on giving random misfire codes (mines OBD2). It acted like that at all rpm.

You should still be able to retreive the code, even if the light went out. Its supposed to be stored in the ECM's memory.

Re: Optispark Failure?

Problem found and fixed.

It was not the optispark.

The gas tank was full of rust and the fuel strainer had clogged.
